Teaching is Satisfying

Dear Diary

Today is a pretty interesting day. I was surprisingly busy at my pharmacy on a Saturday! I usually slack on Saturday… okay, that is supposed to be top secret, haha… Yah right! =) It was also nice to see my previous batch of students (a guy and a gal) returning back. I signed some of the assignments which the guy wanted me to review, and we had lunch together. It was interesting to see them wearing less formal clothes. I saw the “origami-folding, calcium-swallowing” girl in skirts for the first time and… woah… she should have worn skirts more often then when she was having preceptorship, haha… Her blouse looked superb too! She looks great. She got some of her homemade cheesecakes for us to taste and… my oh my… cheesecake is one of my top favourite food. It is also my pharmacy assistant Mark’s favourite too! As for the guy, his casual wear complemented his cute handsome “beaver-ish” looks, haha… Sorry, don’t really know how to compliment a guy properly. I am not gay, hahaha….

After lunch, they volunteered to help me with putting up the new price labels and topping up the stocks… As I did my work and observed them… I was silent. I am a guy but yet… I was touched. I don’t know why. Seeing them help me out in the pharmacy with their own time, made me a little emotional. I am so glad that the attachment seemed to have such a positive impact in their view of working. Maybe I am just suddenly consumed by emotions. Now I know how a teacher feels when a student visits him after graduation. There is that great feeling of joy and satisfaction.

When I was training them many weeks ago, my boss felt that my students need to be “forced” to do more work, help out more and be more spontaneous. I resisted her suggestions and instead did not really ask them to help but wanted to lead by example. Eventually, my method worked and my students volunteered to help around…. Even after their attachment! =) I am so proud of my students, haha…. My current student is also a bundle of joy. Beginning to appreciate her enthusiasm and diligence. Guess I must be really thankful to God for letting me have such great students. Have this feeling that this current student may be my last student in my life. I am sure that I will remember my students for a long long time. Thanks for the memories! =)

In the evening, my college classmate popped by. We had dinner together and chatted a little. Sigh… he just seems so lost… money-making is like “his goal”. I don’t know… call me idealistic but I am starting to pursue the more important priorities in life. Money is not that high in that priority list. Haha…. There is this funny cartoon clip which someone shared with me and guess what…. I really thought that it looks familiar. Think I was that irritating when I was much younger, haha…

That’s all for tonight!

God Bless,

Andrew
