A "Radical" Week
Dear Diary,
This week has been pretty incredible. A series of locum pharmacists’ unavailability led me to work at the airport transit area for 4 consecutive nights! Yes, 6.30pm to 6.30am! My gosh… it was difficult indeed. The worst was the first night on Monday when I was trying to adapt. Then when I was getting used to the shift, HR persuaded me to join in the company’s 20th anniversary celebration at the Singapore Flyer at 7.15am! I couldn’t really say no to her… oh well… on Wednesday morning, I rushed from work to the world’s largest observatory wheel, “The Singapore Flyer”. I was really drowsy but then again, sitting in that first capsule was exhilarating initially. I guess the excitement from the rest was contagious but as the capsule ascended, I thought the scenery wasn’t all too fantastic with the fog setting in. When our capsule touched down… I took a brisk walk to Fullerton Hotel to catch a connecting bus home.
By the way, although the night shifts were tiring… I kinda enjoyed dispensing in the airport. Since I could practically dispense any prescription drugs through export sales, I made full use of it! Haha! In one night, I could be prescribing fucithalmic eye drops for a stye, arcoxia with losec for arthritic pain, sofradex for a suspected otitis externa, fucicort for a person’s eczema with a “breached” skin…. There was even an instance when I helped this Caucasian guy dropped Spersallerg eye-drops into his eyes because he didn’t know how to do it himself. Pharmacy practice to the fullest and restriction-less! Yay! Haha… Many of the tourists called me “doctor” anyway… haha…. So gonna act like one and not disappoint them! ;-)
Just about 8 hours ago, met up with a friend for dinner and a movie. Ate set dinner at this “Indo-Padang” restaurant at the basement of Cathay Building which I thought was pretty okay and unique. Just give that curry jackfruit a miss though… =P We then caught the movie “10,000 BC” at that same building at $10 per ticket. The movie was very similar to that of Mel Gibson’s “Apocalypto” but less realistic. Listening to these pre-historic hunting men speak English was so weird. I think Mel Gibson’s use of Mayan and Latin languages in his “Apocalypto” and “The Passion of the Christ” respectively has bring up the expectations of the viewers. I would have preferred the language of the “10,000 BC” movie to be in some unintelligible language so that I can feel the mood, culture and setting of the movie. Need English subtitles though, haha… Those characters in that movie were too clean-shaven, neat and spotless to be realistic. The incredible “revival” of the heroine just completed a pretty much disappointing movie which only credit I will give is for the battle scenes with the mammoths. The sabre-tooth tiger featured was as lame as Garfield.
Had a long chat with my friend over Coffee Bean in Wheelock Place before proceeding home by bus. There are just so many things in life to accomplish and many of the deadlines we set for them are in the 20 – 30 year-old phase! Then again, achievements are fleeting. I once prayed that I would be satisfied for life if I passed my driving test. As I grow a little bit wiser, I realise that ultimately the only lasting “achievement” I will ever have is given to me by God’s grace. That is the reconciliation to God my Father and creator.
Okay, that’s all for the night. Goodnight!
God Bless,
Andrew
