Varied Thoughts

Dear Diary,

Okay, I am gonna type something short before an evening jog. I only work till 3pm today. Ate lunch, came home and checked out the stock market. Sigh… saw my profits dwindled down from more than $2K to just slightly over $1K. Should I sell now? I think I will just keep those 10 lots of shares. Hard to keep that discipline of long term investment when you see your shares go up and down like some roller-coaster. Oh well…

The bus trip home was pretty fascinating with the chatters from huge hordes of Tanjong Katong Girls’ School (TKGS) students. Sounded like a “market place” that even my stereo earphones were not “sound proof” enough. Nonetheless, watching the expressions of these girls more than a decade younger than me, made me realise how much social inhibitions we have placed on ourselves as we grow older chronologically. They laughed and made funny faces. They were so self-absorbed, oblivious to the surrounding. A couple of them waved to their friends and their friends responded in kind… perhaps even more enthusiastically. For us young adults, you could smile if your friend just wave lethargically back at you or just raise his eyebrows in lazy acknowledgement, haha…

I will embark night shift duties for the whole of next week in arguably the busiest pharmacy around in Singapore. How sad… will even miss the company sponsored ride on the Singapore Flyer (the world’s largest observatory wheel) next week. As for my own pharmacy, I will not run it for one week… Hmmm… love working at my current location because I am already starting to see the fruits of my labour as I seek to bring the sales of the dispensary up in dramatic fashion. ;-)

Gone were the library which I can visit during my meal breaks when I was in my previous outlet. Here, I spend my time in a bookstore and read the latest books around. I saw the book “The Everlasting Man” by Chesterton. However, I gave that a miss because it seemed so philosophical and abstract… Instead, picked up one stunning religious book. Not exactly a book an Anglican will be reading but nonetheless I was thoroughly impressed by the love of that author for his religion. The book “The Catholic Passion” by David Scott, is so gracefully written and compelling that I read the entire book. Was tempted to purchase a copy to let my Dad and sisters read… but no, I did not. Doubt they will really sit down to read a Catholic book.

On Monday evening, I saw my university laboratory partner got married in style. The wedding dinner was held in the Swissotel hotel. As much as the TKGS girls reminded me with their chatters, the wedding dinners that came one after another… remind me that time waits for no one. I am trying to be calm and patient but I am desperate for God to lead me where my destiny is. Now I know how people feel when the answer to their prayers is “Wait”. I rather have a “Yes” or a “No” outright. “Wait” is a very character-building answer… especially in our era where everything is accomplished with such great efficiency. Nevertheless, I pray for faith to be patient.

God Bless,

Andrew
