The Closure of yet another Chapter
Dear Diary,
It is past midnight but still I thought I would stay up a little to add a blog entry. I will be entering an army camp for 2 weeks from this coming Monday onwards and do not think that I should spend too much time asleep when I am still out here, haha…
Today… or rather yesterday (since it is past midnight) seemed to point to a “closure” of some sorts. In the morning, I tried to start my laptop but the hard-disk was not even whirling. I had this strong feeling that it “breathed” its last when I completed typing the previous blog entry “Stepping into the New year” two nights ago. My computer, a Fujitsu Lifebook which I bought at NUS on August 2001, looks likely to be unresponsive to any form of resuscitating attempts. Sigh… all my data, games and songs are all in there. In a way, many of my memories will vanish with it. The photos, the letters, the email records… and with them… the memories… It is almost as if I am asked to say goodbye to my past without a chance to do backup at all! At least, Dad has lent me his Toshiba Satellite for the night. Or maybe two nights… maybe more, haha… so I can still live an “internet” life.
The day went on pretty uneventful. Then it was time to leave the pharmacy. I went over to my pharmacy assistant, my store supervisor and a senior store assistant to shake their hands. Yesterday is the last day I am resident pharmacist of that branch. Since I am no longer going back to man that branch, I can let you know at last…. The mysterious location was Toa Payoh branch. Oh yes, okay… you guessed that, I see… haha… =P There was no fanfare… Nothing. Even my former students had a better sent-off than myself, haha… Some were actually shocked that I seemed to be leaving earlier than scheduled. It did not matter much… I am sure that I will miss this bunch of colleagues at the store and the regular clientele I have. After all, I have been in this outlet for almost 1.75 years.
It is tough growing up… things don’t really last long… time flies… people fade into distant memories… Nonetheless, I will set my sights on distant shores and maybe it is all about having the courage to leave the cozy harbour. The harbour is no longer able to contain the aspirations of a growing young man. I will look forward to the new outlet which I am going to take charge after my reservist. It is going to be a bigger outlet… however, I don’t think I will build any legacy in there as much as I did in Toa Payoh.
