The Phonecall
Dear Diary,
Just came back from an impromptu buffet dinner at the nearby Hotel Windsor with my family. A pretty nice chat with them over dinner. Yay! My short 2-day reservist medical training is over now. I will wait for the killer 2-week one, two Mondays later. Sigh…
Today was a pretty lazy day in army camp until a phone call came along. The innocence of the ringing did not trigger any conscious forewarning for me as I received the call. It was from someone who wanted to speak to me for 15 minutes. I asked if I could call her back later or maybe the next day or even next Monday. She told me that she would be leaving office at 4pm today and going on leave. Hmmm… not suspecting anything, I told her I would call her back again on a more convenient time soon since I was in the midst of military training.
I managed to squeeze out some time from a break and called her back. I was almost expecting some instructions to be conveyed as I prepared a notepad and a pen. It was not to be so and she started conducting a verbal interview over the phone. I was caught totally off-guard and had difficulties answering some of the questions posed.
When that interview concluded, I leaned back demoralized. I couldn’t believe that I was yet again selected (only selected ones will be notified as stated in the application) for interview, only to flop… Sigh… I sure hope I qualify for the second interview! This year seems like a year riddled with failed interviews including the Duke-NUS one which I fell over the last hurdle. It was just less than 2 years ago when I was practically offered a job in almost every single one I applied to. The connection seems to be that I am usually successful if I get interviewed for pharmacy-related issues. For other fields, I am still trying very much to break that negative trend! Maybe I don’t get used to fighting a successful battle when my “pretty illustrious” pharmacy background is irrelevant.
Anyway, time to sleep and hopefully… sweeter dreams tonight! ;-) Goodnight.
