Childhood Revisited

Dear Diary,

Just came home from possibly one of the most amazing evenings of my life. The entire day pales sharply with tonight’s dinner. It did not affect the mood that all of my old classmates were late some way or another, haha… Well, they were pardonable because they are girls, haha… Waited patiently for half an hour for one of them before I proceeded with her to meet another at Tony Romas in Suntec City. The first time I knew her, we were just seven-year-olds. She still had her doe-eyes… still fair, quiet and gentle. Hard to talk to a girl whom the last time I ever spoke any meaningful speech to her was 15 years ago. However, we did pretty well! On our way to the restaurant, she suddenly pointed out that we just walked past another primary school classmate! I turned back but decided not to give pursue to say hi to that girl. Apparently, she is now an accountant with a bank. Isn’t it amazing with this kind of coincidence?

Later, the other classmate joined us and we had this long chat… talking about the past, about the present, about our lives, about the kids these days, about our age (we concluded that we are still young, haha)… Somehow, what is so magical about it is that after 15 years old, we could all just sit down over dinner and had a chat with laughter. Tony Romas serves good spare ribs but we had such engrossed chat that I kinda forgotten that I ate spare ribs, haha… Since we each had different careers, it was fascinating to listen the stories they had about their jobs… they thought my job was interesting… errr… ok, haha… =)

By 10pm, Tony Romas was already “chasing” us out of their restaurant. Talk about nightlife in Singapore! We took a walk to the train station and proceeded home. Not sure if when we would ever meet again. There was that indescribable nostalgia. Really thank God that we are made the way we are… humans who can feel happy, sad, sentimental, optimistic, … and a whole range of feelings. Although life in this world is supposedly imperfect and full of anguish… yet because of the negative aspects of life, we can really appreciate and experience the moments of joy based on contrast. Moments of peace. Moments of hope. Moments indescribable.

God Bless,

Andrew
