Visiting NUS

Dear Diary,

Boss joined my two colleagues and myself for lunch today. We ate at that Nonya restaurant along Pahang Street. Somehow, I am beginning to feel that I am getting used to the work already. I thought I did quite well for the meeting presentation earlier this morning. The work is piling up but yet I feel I am more in control of things now than before, haha… I would say that there are some inroads to developing the business now and the way they came about seems almost God-sent! ;-)

Yesterday, I accompanied a colleague to man her booth at the NUS Biochemistry department. We set up the booth and then sat there most of the day, chatting with researchers, lecturers and visiting students in this inaugural students’ symposium by the Biochemistry department. When there were lull periods, we just helped ourselves with the catered food, haha… There were also some interactions between the rival companies. I learnt that a particular sales rep is the friend of my pharmacy classmate’s best friend! This pharmacy classmate of mine is now working in SGH. It can be quite surprising that I had almost no knowledge of foetal bovine serum, other culture mediums, hemocytometers, DMEM, RPMI, siRNA, shRNA, transfaction reagents and other cell culture stuff at the beginning, but was soon able to introduce these products to enquirers at our booth after watching my colleague speak a couple of times, hee…

I managed to find some time to meet up with my ex-pharmacy classmate for a drink. She is doing her third year of PhD. I bought her a drink at the air-conditioned Megabites café and we chatted for almost 2 hours. It was a really nice conversation but I got a little shocked (although I did not expressed it) when at one point, tears rolled down her cheeks. I guess most of us are in some of the trickiest phase of our lives. I should kick myself for not offering a tissue paper to her, as I was momentarily stunned. She told me she couldn’t seem to grasp the meaning of life. All is vanity! It is surprising to be hearing from the lips of a free-thinker. I told her that life is very meaningful because there is a life beyond this and that she can find me if ever she wants to know about the God I know.

I did not managed to meet Prof Go who supposedly stepped out for a lecture… Hmmm, I thought this week is the semester break? Chatted with two other ex-pharmacy classmates who are doing their PhD in her lab. One of them was the girl whom I did my retail pharmacy attachment with as a year 2 student. Time seems to move along so relentlessly that when I saw my former student at the CIL doing her FYP work, I remarked jokingly “Can’t believe that even my student is doing her final year already!” She laughed. It is unfortunate that we can’t live almost a thousand years old like Adam and Eve huh… hahaha… At least, we have eternity! ;-)

Talking about eternity, we better be at the right place during that time! I was like procrastinating about meeting up with people to tell the gospel. However, as I logged into Facebook earlier, an elderly locum pharmacist from my previous company updated his account. His was dormant for a long time. It just dawned upon me that many of these locums really treated me very well when I was in my previous job. The least I can do is to share with them something that will change their destiny forever. Okay, I am going to just drop a facebook message to one of them who is 64 years old and ask him out for a meal. Pray for me! Thanks.

God Bless,

Andrew
