A God-Permeated Life

Dear Diary,

Aching a little after an evening jog. Can’t help feeling that my joints are a little inflexible these days. Still love running in the evening because it never fails to leave my spirits up a little and gives me some time to just think about my life. I meant… what is my existence in this world for? I have this crazy idea of inviting some of the older locums from my former company out for dinner so that I can tell them about Christ Jesus! I just feel that the gospel needs to be presented to them because they are dear to God too. Really wonder how I can go about doing that. Hoping to cast some questions into their minds, so that they can see the sacrifice of Christ and partaking in that salvation. There is an urgency for the gospel to be preached but as modern city-dwellers, we are just so apathetic at times… or rather most of the time.

Our actions are really important whether as a testimony for God to the rest of the people around us or as a motivation / encouragement for others. I was quite pleasantly surprised when my former student told me that her classmate who was attached to my pharmacy for just two days during the preceptorship, attributed his recent good form of academic results to us. It was quite puzzling at first because I did not specifically do anything special for him… Nonetheless, it serves as a reminder that our actions, however minor or insignificant to us, may impact the lives of others negatively or positively. We don’t need to be members-of-parliament (MP) or cabinet ministers to be able to influence the lives of others. We, as a member of our own social community, interact and influence others too.

Yesterday, I actually accepted an invitation of a friend to attend that “Arrival of the stork – Bliss or woe?” forum held at the grassroots’ club beside Yio Chu Kang MRT station. It was quite an eye-opener indeed to hear from the panellists including the MP Dr Lam talk about how government policies are formulated. The food and the gift were actually quite good. My friend even passed me a gift she got for me from Spain. It was a beautiful ceramic tile with a painting of a male pharmacist dispensing medicine to a female customer. The words were “Aqui vive un:farmaceutico” which I believe means “Here lives a pharmacist”. Those words seem almost to speak to my heart, reminding me that I am a pharmacist even if I do not practise pharmacy these days. A heart-warming thought indeed.

Last night, there was a friend who spoke about her passion of helping animals. Apparently, many Christians don’t feel much for animals because they kept thinking that man is supposed to rule over the animals anyway. Nevertheless, I remember St Francis of Assisi whose love for animals and nature is a reflection of his love for God. After all, did not God imply that He cares for the animals too? (Matthew 6:26) So loving God’s creation in nature is to love the maker behind it all too. I don’t exactly advocate vegetarian diets though, haha… Nevertheless, as Christians… we should not be ego-centric and just say hallelujah because we have salvation. We need to show God’s love to our neighbours and even nature, and sharing our joy with those who have yet to come to faith in Christ Jesus.

May God lead us into all Truth. Realised that I may not be able to do street evangelism next Saturday because I have a friend’s wedding to attend. Talk about bad timings… sigh…. Gotta go type a report now. Goodnight!

God Bless,

Andrew
