A Sleepy Post
Dear Diary,
Wasted about 2 hours watching the movie “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” on television. Can’t help feeling that time seem limited. That is even when we attended the 8am church service (instead of of the usual 11.15am service)… So by 9.30am today, we had almost the whole day left to do stuff but still I felt a little pressed for time. My new job has been good so far. My boss seems very nice towards me and I think I have met her expectations thus far. However, I still feel that I am not learning fast enough! I guess I have very high expectations of myself. This new job is a drastic change in scope and although I know that, I still expect myself to settle in faster and contribute to the team. Sigh… Went for an evening run to ease off some stress… maybe it is self-induced… I don’t know. I overtook this college girl as I was running around the estate. Then I decided to slow down to a jog after completing 3km, so that she could catch up. She never seemed to catch up so I started walking for long distances. Then as I was daydreaming, she zipped past me and crossed that “imaginary” finishing line. You may not believe this but I was actually conducting an experiment. I do not know that college girl but yet when I was a target within reach for her, she motivated herself to beat me to the finishing line. That’s how stressful and competitive our Singaporean mindset is. I am so guilty of that too. We thrived on competition; the desire to win and be better than others. Isn’t it sad? Haha… Today is actually my mum’s birthday! ;-)
Yesterday, we celebrated mum’s birthday at Peony Jade restaurant in Clarke Quay. They serve really good Sze Chuan and Cantonese cuisine. We had buffet lunch there and it was about $40 per head. I enjoyed the food but left the restaurant feeling a teeny weeny bit of guilt of having indulging in rich food for the past two weeks. Since we were nearby Liang Court, I popped by their electronic superstore “AudioHouse”. The prices were similar to what was offered at the Comex fair currently at Suntec City! Without the snaking queue and the huge crowd… ;-) I was contemplating if I should get all the items on my wish list: a notebook computer, a digital camera and a GPS navigator. In the end, I settled for the Packard Bell GPS which was priced affordably. The famous Garmin Nuvi brand does not direct the user to the exact spot of his destination, while the cheaper Shinco brand… well, I couldn’t bear investing a couple of hundreds of dollars on a product from China and not feeling proud about it… sorry, hee… Now, I won’t be lost in my vehicle again with my Packard Bell! Yay! It is a really cool device I must say, haha…
I hope this coming week will be good. May meet up with as many as three different friends for dinner over the week. We will see if they come to past though. I also wish a friend all the best as he embarks on his first job of his life tomorrow, keke… Hopefully, when he settles in his job well… I will try to organise a reunion with some super old classmates from the primary school days for him. Actually, I wanted to share my thoughts on something I read from the bible… but my mind isn’t functioning too well now… kinda sleepy and I am struggling to complete this blog entry. Hope it makes some sense so far, haha… yawn… Goodnight!
God Bless,
Andrew
