Advent

Dear Diary,

Realised that Facebook can be “mildly” addictive, haha… It is strange why those simple mindless games on Facebook can have that subtle “draw” on me to play them. Haha… Anyway, it is the season of Advent! =) I saw the first candle lighted up on the Advent wreath of four candles in church today. Advent is a season on the Christian liturgical calendar whereby we Christians prepare and wait expectantly for the celebration of the nativity of Christ on Christmas. So the Advent season starting Advent Sunday, serves as a dual reminder of the waiting of the birth of the infant Jesus 2000 years ago as well as the waiting of the second coming of Christ which obviously is yet to arrive… if not, there won’t be this entry, haha…

I seem to have this feeling that I have so many incidents I can type out and share but yet I think they are just fleeting thoughts not worth mentioning… then suddenly I have nothing to type, haha… Oh my, I am old I guess, haha… Saw a number of people with the Standard Chartered Marathon singlets walking along City Hall, clearly exhausted. I can’t believe I am such a procrastinator. Just last year July, I was so determined to participate in a marathon but had to abandon plans because my work was so overwhelming in time consumption that my training progress was not satisfactory. So I did not go for it.

I just have this desire to give it a shot while I am still reasonably young… Do I look old? Ok, at least… I feel young, haha… If… if only I have a 5-day work week with my evenings free… how wonderful it would be! I have set a target when I joined my current company that I would review my options when I work 2 years in it. I am approaching that in April next year. I must have the courage to make drastic decisions if deemed necessary. I hope I can embark on a postgraduate study and maybe complete the marathon next year.

This year wasn’t all too bad… got promoted in the beginning of the year. Took 3 students as a preceptor (oh yes, the university has yet to pay me and it is almost half a year already… all the bureaucracy!)… oh yes, got rejected for my application to study in the Duke-NUS GMS… that pretty much summed up my whole year. I sure hope next year will be more challenging and successful.

Today’s church service, we had the children’s choir sing us some hymns… those little boys and girls in white… how cute! If I ever get married and have kids, I must remind myself to give time to them… read them bedtime stories (my father used to do that for us) and teach them Christian values and faith.

Hmmm… maybe I really have to plan for the future… no more procrastinating… got a couple of objectives I need to meet… said the goal-oriented, objective-setting, future-planning Andrew. Hahaha…In the meantime, wait for Christmas!!!!! =) Yay!

Next weekend and the weekend after next, I would be attending two different friends’ weddings! Seems like this wedding thing is getting all too familiar and frequent… haha… anyway, may just pop in Wesley Methodist Church alone next Sunday to check it out since it is near to the wedding venue and the service timing is just nice. Haven’t really attended a Methodist church before… should be an eye-opener. =)

God Bless,

Andrew
