A Night Out

Dear Diary,

It is past midnight… hmmm… came back earlier from a get-together with some university classmates. It was quite sad that eventually… all the talk about getting 7 of us out for dinner together… only 3 met up. That is working life… it is hard to meet up and I am also kinda resigned to such scenarios. Anyway, after a short trip to the National Library where I borrowed two books, I met up with my two classmates and we ate at Jack’s Place at Bras Basah Complex. It was actually my suggestion because the last time I ever ate at Jack’s Place was probably when I was a university year 3 student. At that time, I still remember that I ate at the outlet in Orchard Road because of a student’s discount special... Hee...

The ambience was good, traditional and dimly lit. Got that medium rare 350-gram T-bone steak. It tasted not bad but the knife could be sharper. Was sawing the remains of the steak in a barbaric manner midway, haha… Somehow, meetings with fellow pharmacists are usually pessimistic in nature. The usual talk about lack of recognition, lack of pay, lack of … blah blah… We spent about 1.5 hours there till 8.30pm before we adjourned to the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel. It is the first time I stepped into that bar. That bar had that “musky” feel with music from the 70’s playing softly on the background. We got a good couch. The floor was rampantly littered with shells of groundnuts. In fact, groundnuts were free-flow. The waiter kept topping up our groundnut container to the brim and overflowing!

Ordered the “Singapore Sling” and tasted it for the first time… hmm… sweet… now I know what’s “Singapore Sling” all about. Tasted the “Tequila Sunrise” too and therefore now know what the Eagles are singing about all these while, haha… We were the only group of locals. The rest of the patrons were Caucasians and some Japanese. We chatted for 2 hours, munching on groundnuts and sipping our alcoholic drinks. I noticed that the ceiling fans were traditional Satay fans waving away, powered by electricity. Hmmm… interesting. By 10.30pm, I left for home. They even gave us a “recipe” of our drinks so that we could concoct them back at home, haha…

In church earlier last morning, managed to smile and wave at a girl whom I never really spoke to in church but kept seeing her around at the vicinity of my workplace. She waved back with a smile. All I can say is that… Girls should have a smile as much as possible because guys will notice a girl with a beautiful smile and a cheerful demeanour. =)

There was this friend who asked me why I am always so “free” on an evening and coming on MSN. Well… when I come online, I see many people with the “busy” icon. In reality, I am very busy too… Usually doing some work while having my MSN messenger logged on. However, I almost never activate the “busy” icon because I feel that I want to be available if a friend really needs a listening ear or want to chat. Despite having work to do each evening, I am quite sure I could spare intermittent minutes responding, chatting and encouraging. Surely… you guys should be appreciative of that! Haha! =P

Alright, time to sleep! Goodnight.

God Bless,

Andrew
