Instant Noodling
Dear Diary,
When will the busyness ever stop? Sometimes, I wonder why my life is just so busy. It has been more than a year and a half since I bought Harrison’s “Principles of Internal Medicine” and I haven’t even tore apart the plastic wrapper over it! Geeshhh… and now, I don’t have time to read it again. Was reading “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes yesterday and completed it at last. The story ended sadly. Sigh… It started off bright and sunny… optimistic… but when it ended, I felt sad. I rather not taste the most luxurious and privileged things in life if it is not meant to last. In that book, Charlie Gordon who is mentally retarded, became a genius after a scientific breakthrough only to return to his initial condition eventually in a heart-wrenching reversal. In a way, it teaches us not to trust in things that are temporal. If you get what I mean… trust in the things that have eternal value. Ironically, it is the temporal things of this life that is tangible and stimulating to the senses. This is when faith comes in.
After a 4-day break from work, there was much backlogging of work to catch up on. When I eventually completed them all at the stroke of 6pm, I was totally elated with myself… haha… yes, totally egoistic. Must learn to thank God for His grace instead! =) Went home…. Sat on the bus, deep in thoughts. I am really planning to do a part-time Masters course in the near future but when I thought I kinda made up my mind… I am vacillating again. I really need to be decisive! God help me. I need to pray tonight on this.
On a lighter note, cooked instant noodles for my sister who returned home from work just half an hour ago, haha… there was no dinner left since she did not inform us that she was coming home early. So I whipped out a packet of instant noodles and made for her a meal fit for a king! Haha… Mum tasted a strand of noodle and said that my instant-noodle-cooking skill is good! Hee… This is how I cook my noodles… ready? ;-)
Andrew’s Instant Noodling Delicacy (Copyrighted)
1. Choose a packet of instant noodles with seasoning intended for fried noodles (eg. Mee Goreng flavour).
2. Tear open the packet and put the noodles into a metal pot.
3. Boil some water in the kettle.
4. Pour the hot boiling water into the metal pot till it covers the noodles entirely.
5. Now, bring the metal pot to the stove and heat it up gently.
6. Stir the noodles and once the noodles are slightly soft, stop cooking and strain away the water.
7. Now put in the seasoning and add the sesame oil. Stir well.
8. Bring the pot back to the stove and stir the noodles over the flame till it sizzles a little.
9. It is now ready to be served.
10. Pour the noodles onto a plate.
11. Dribble some liquor (Benedictine DOM) onto the noodles. About a half a tablespoon.
12. Serve warm.
That was what my sister ate and she gave the thumbs-up. Then again, other than the technique, sprinkle a little of love and patience and sacrifice! Haha… A marvellous dish! Okay, that’s all for now… Gotta go draw up the roster again. Take care and till then!
God Bless,
Andrew
