Beyond 10,000
Dear Diary,
On 5 August 2007 (Sunday) at 11:46:26 pm, my blog registered the 10,000th visit! ;-) Yay! Anyway, I am in a good mood now, haha…. Relaxing the first few hours of my 4-day break from work! Whoopppee! Really need the break, man! These coming 4 days are not too packed in schedule. Need to attend a wedding on Saturday, that’s all.
On Tuesday, which is yesterday… got a gift left behind by the locum pharmacist. Cool! A high-tech stationery contraption of a powerful stapler and scotch tape dispenser…. Really high-tech… just press buttons only, haha… Then in the evening, a friend (she wore this T-shirt which read “Jesus Saves” in bold. Yay!) dropped by the pharmacy and gave me a huge Tupperware of hand-made tiramisu cake. Awww… how sweet of her! I put it in the fridge in the pharmacy before bringing it home. I ate that for supper, sharing some with my family members. The taste was great! Heavenly! Haha… Asked the recipe from her already… she hasn’t replied me.
I am not a baker. In fact, the only time I baked was some tapioca cake. Mum helped me then. I brought the cake (which I sliced and placed in small plastic sheets) to Tan Tock Seng Hospital and shared with my fellow pre-registration colleagues then. It felt extremely good when my colleagues praised what I baked, haha… In fact, I usually remember the hand-made food that people gave to me better, than the treats they gave me in the restaurants or eateries or confectionaries. There is something about the effort and time the giver puts in that makes a huge impact on the receiver! =) It is more blessed to give… I don’t mind receiving though. =P Any givers out there? Haha…. Joking!
So with the gifts yesterday and the fact that today I am anticipating the 4-day break… I am quite cheerful and actually teased a 23-year-old girl at my pharmacy early in the morning… “Hey, lucky you! Your prescription is the first to be photocopied in my newly installed powerful heavy-duty printer!” She smiled weakly. When she left… oops… she was filling her prescription of oral contraceptives, maybe a bit shy… haha…
There was this regular customer who came to fill his prescription again. I asked him if he is a pastor since my pharmacy assistant told me so. “Yup!” He replied. Then he named a charismatic church as his church. When he learnt that I was from Saint Andrew’s… he went, “Oh… a cathedral guy….” I was literally scratching my head. Now, what is a cathedral guy? What stereotyping is that? Haha… Upon further thinking, there is something about cathedral Christians generally…
1. Most attend church with their families
2. Most are pretty good with liturgies
3. Most can regurgitate the apostle creed and liturgical prayers
4. Most follow the Church liturgical calendar (Christmas, Easter, Good Friday & Maundy Thursday are very important events to them)
5. Most like to pray in a quiet church environment in kneeling position
6. Most like to take the Holy Communion
7. Most like stained glasses, images and icons
8. Most are pretty good at church history and theology
9. Most are apologists in disguise, haha…
10. Most like clerical vestments
11. Most ever dream of becoming a clergy at a point in their lives
12. Most are more evangelistic in deeds rather than in persuasion
13. Most know the bible stories well but can’t really quote exact scripture verses that well
14. Most expect understanding faith and not blind faith
15. Most want to marry, baptise their children as infants, and die in the church
16. Most speak English well
17. Most are not radical
18. Most don’t carry bibles to church (the church provides them in the pews)
19. Most are fun-loving when you know them better
20. Most make good husbands, alright! Hahaha… Any takers? =P
Anyway, maybe I should start tearing apart the plastic sheet that binds that two thick books which I bought when I was a pre-registration pharmacist. Yup, I think I am crazy… but suddenly, have that urge to read “Principles of Internal Medicine” by Harrisons. I can’t let my brain cells go to further waste and deterioration!
Have a Happy National Day tomorrow! That is if you are a Singaporean, haha…
God Bless,
Andrew
