Evanescent

Dear Diary,

As I was eating dinner at my dining room... I suddenly took notice of the replica of Leonardo Da Vinci's masterpiece "The Last Supper". It is a picture painted in the 15th century to portray the reactions of the twelve disciples when Jesus Christ announced that one of them would betray him as recounted in the Gospel of Saint John (John 13:21).

It is quite amazing that this picture which hung at my dining room for more than ten years, is still attractive to me. Sadly, like many things in life... we soon got so "familiar" with it that we no longer "see" it anymore. Taking those things for granted and not paying much attention to them. I have been a Christian for slightly over 12 years... admittedly I notice a slight decline in the fervency regarding the practising of the faith. Nonetheless, this is a timely reminder that while myself and many Christians enjoy the reconciled relationship with God and the assurance of salvation, we should never neglect sharing the good news with others yet to come to the knowledge of the redeeming sacrifice of Christ Jesus.

Tomorrow, I will hand over duty to a locum pharmacist in the evening. Having a pretty good friendship with her. However, the sad thing about a progressively strong friendship with a non-Christian is that it becomes harder to talk to them about the gospel. The fear of "upseting" the friendship becomes a concern. It happens many times in my life. Somehow, I know that there is a period or point of time in a friendship whereby you haven't got quite too close to be afraid to risk but yet close enough for the other party to listen to your thoughts or suggestions. Maybe I should derive an equation for that, haha... =P I should try to follow up a little on her and those religious materials I passed to her.

I caught the drama "Ugly Betty" on its debut episode. Realise how much we always clamour for the attention of the populars and the gorgeous-lookings. If we have any depth in our characters, judgements and self-worths... we must ultimately know that it is what is beneath the layers of skin and makeup that really matters. I sure hope I can do what I preach! =) There is something I like about doing my pharmacy practice in a neighbourhood and that is I get to interact with all kinds of people. Not just the cute trendy girls along Orchard Road or the foreigners at the airport... In my neighbourhood, I encounter the office workers, the young married couples, the elderly, the primary school kids... =) Of course, the addicts, the insanes, the thieves... Love thy neighbour, hahaha... =P

God Bless,

Andrew
