Speed Dating
Dear Diary,
It is quite embarrassing this morning because I actually remembered the timing wrongly! I thought I read that the wedding ceremony in church would start at 11am this morning. Poor memory I’ve got. The excuse is that I read it about a month ago, hee.... It turned out to be 10am! So while I was dressing myself up at 10.20am, I casually flipped open the invitation card and lo behold... 10am!!!! I couldn’t possibly attend already. I would be so unfashionably late. Maybe the only thing I would see is the benediction, haha... Never mind, I will attend the wedding dinner tonight. I’ve checked already; cocktail at 6.30pm. =) I will be punctual.
I was intending to elaborate in detail on why you should consider watching the movie “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” starring Brad Pitt, but I guess yesterday’s event was more interesting to share compared to that movie which I caught on Thursday evening, haha... So let me just make a snappy one. The “Benjamin Button” movie is actually quite a sad one. It is already so amazing how an author actually thought of such a plot! The movie did not make me cry... in fact, I did not really notice anyone in my vicinity (including my friend) cry. However, there were long periods where only a sigh would relieve that heavy-heartedness in me. Benjamin Button (starred by Brad Pitt) had this sad privilege of ageing backwards and he saw how his physique improved to his delight. Unfortunately, people around him aged and died. Ageing was a very central focus of this movie and there were at least two instances where materialism was depicted as vanity; worthless. One was when his biological father wanted to leave his inheritance to Benjamin and the other was when a fellow tugboat sailor passed Benjamin a sum of money to pass to his wife during a World War II period. It can be quite sad when you see his love eventually looked after him who became a young boy with dementia. One of those movies worth catching! It is 2.5-hour, haha... worth the cost.
Yesterday, I tried something I never done before! Speed dating event! Haha... I signed up with an army friend for this event. We thought we should kinda at least experience what it is all about, haha... Just hours earlier, I was even wondering if we would be under-aged because of all the talk of the “Single Desperate Ugly” (SDU) and how most people will be in their thirties. It was definitely better and paying $36 for a 3-course dinner at the Earshot cafe in the Arts House (Old Parliament Building) was surprisingly good value. It was nice talking with people from all walks of life and it was made much easier and comfortable to have a friend around too! The female age range is from 25 years to... The upper limit was not revealed, haha. If the girl is young (eg. 25yo), you can be sure she will find an opportunity to tell you that. The other end of the spectrum, of course, is a different scenario... extraction of age information is almost like military intelligence. There were eleven guys and twelve girls. We had about 8 minutes to talk to each girl and were rotated around. We were there from 7pm to 10.15pm. It was full of laughter, haha... many came with a friend and two girls are sisters! Biological sisters. It all ended with us writing the top two choices of girls we wanna know better. If they list us as their two choices and they are within our two choices too, then we will get their contacts and maybe the journey has just began. If there is no match, well... it is a nice evening to remember anyway! ;-)
Okay, that’s about it! Till another time!
God Bless,
Andrew
