The Joy of Dancing
Dear Diary,
Was searching for some "Salsa" articles online just now, a follow-up on the 2nd lesson I had yesterday. when I chanced upon numerous articles on a top female salsa dancer and instructor. She is actually an instructor in my dance school! Goodness!!! She looks so ordinary but she is among the best in the world. She is probably about 24 years old? A former NUS sociology student from the class of 2007 I think. Anyway, just leave a hyperlink here: http://www.actfa.com/starlinn/ if you are interested to check it out. By the way, that's the dance school I am attending! Good choce, Andrew. ;-) I am suddenly a little "fired" up and more resolved in putting more effort to learn dancing.
It just occurred to me that there are so many "measures" of success but I have been brought up to be so myopic about it, focusing only on the academic and career achievements, like most triple-science college students and pharmacy undergraduates. That Salsa instructor is so good in dance that she is world-renowned at such a young age! We need to know that we are all talented in some ways. Sometimes, it takes time to uncover this talent and gift. Do remember that success is defined differently for each individual and it is not necessary for one to measure it according to the standards of others.
Dancing lessons had been pretty fun so far. It is kind of a challenge to be able to coordinate and time one's movements, something which most "nerdy" breed like me don't practise often, hahaha... I am actually quite proud of myself when I asked a girl to practise dance with me after the lessons. I am glad that she agreed. Dancing puts me in situations which I do not face in usual daily scenarios. I am so used to being good in stuff I do and to be fully in control of situations. As for dancing, it can be enjoyable and hilarious when I fumbled or made wrong moves... haha...
Anyway, yesterday after the dance class, I ate dinner with a college friend at the nearby KFC and we had a pretty nice long chat on Christian apology. Felt a little like the student days. Except we can stay a bit later since I have a car now! ;-) Gotta visit the Sitex 2008 fair this weekend to finalise my choice on a laptop so that my Fujitsu notebook computer which I bought from NUS in mid 2001can retire at last. Have a nice day tomorrow!
God Bless,
